THE Y FOR
YOUTH DEVELOPMENT
We focus our work in three key areas, because nurturing the potential of kids, helping people live healthier, and supporting our neighbors are fundamental to strengthening communities.
YMCA Skate Park
Check out our updated street course! In
addition to our
multiple ledges, rails, boxes, and mini ramps, we added a new
four stairs designed for both beginners and experts.
Looking to go big? Drop in on our 120’ vert used at the 2003 X-Games.
We have two of the best cement pools in the country. One is a backyard style kidney pool the other is a multi-tiered clover bowl. Both pools have smooth transitions, flawless coping, and perfect tile.
For the beginners, mini land is the perfect place to learn. With gradual transitions and smaller ramps, mini land will help you learn proper techniques and maneuvers.
YOUR SKATE PARK
OF THE FUTURE

What We Need
As one of the most iconic Skate Parks in the world, our construction of wood and skatelite ramps is important to maintain our uniqueness and appeal to the skate community. Our proximity to the Pacific Ocean and high levels of moisture creates a challenging atmosphere for wood longevity. The consistent moisture requires constant upkeep and replacement of wood and skatelite to keep the park running. After a series of focus groups, assessments and surveys, our Y is seeking a renovation and redesign of our current park. The popularity of skateboarding is predicting to rise in the next decade. To keep up with the growing popularity of skateboarding, our Y has pioneered the concept of offering skateboarding lessons to beginners. Parents have recognized the benefits of skaters learning skateboarding basics, falling safety and skate etiquette and our current lesson program has reached max capacity. As a result, part of our proposed redesign is to expand our Mini-Land lesson area complete with spectator area to meet the growing demand of skateboarding lessons.
Additional renovations are focused around the goals of park sustainability while maintaining the exciting and unique features wood construction offers to the skate community. Such renovations include the transformation of our wood street course into a partial wood/concrete mix street course, the expansion of the Mini-Land lesson area and the addition of a spectator area.
